Hey all, I just returned from King Alfred's Way.
It is a ~350km loop around historic Wessex, the Anglo-Saxon kingdom of Alfred the Great. The route starts and ends in Winchester. It is full of historic places and rich in different landscapes.
You can ride it with both gravel or mountain bike, tough the terrain may change dramatically after heavy rain. *To be honest you can ride it with any bike, but it may be a bit more challenging, depending on your skill level and confidence.
Feel free to ask me questions if you are thinking to ride this. I rode this route in two trips. First one was Winchester to Reading and the second Reading to Winchester.
One advice - take a spare inner tube and puncture repair kit or two. Segments of the route has some sharp flint and loads of thorns from wild life. I had more than few punctures.
